12/5/07 - Went for drinks on beach with celebrity Mel & met all Lisa´s workmates. Had far too much rum punch & heinekan.
14/5/07 - Went to botanical gardens & saw blue iguanas. We hitched a ride home with some really nice Jehovas witnesses. They gave us some reading material.....
15/5/07 - Snorkelled at smiths cove in the morning.
16/5/07 - Investigated what was towards the airport, the location of the humane society to find out about walking the dogs and the roti shop. Went for a curry later on but the weather was shocking and we got soaked.
17/5/07- Walked dogs @ humane society, then got bikes. Chan borrowed hers off celebrity Mel & I borrowed one from Craig who was visiting the UK.
18/5/07 - Watched my shambles of a football team get outplayed by Yeovil (again) and bow out of the play-offs 5-4 AET....gutted. Ate at Stax for free food friday, very busy because its a bank holiday weekend. Dave´s 40th so we went out and went to ´next level´night club after quite a few at Áqua Beach´.
20/5/07 - Rode bikes up most of 7-mile beach, saw a blue spotted ray whilst snorkelling, scrabble and beer round the pool later on - hard core!!
21/5/07 - BH everything shut, watched sunset @ sunset, ate at hammerheads then a random bloke gave us a lift home.
22/5/07 - Walked ´snowy´and ´puddle´from humane society.
23/5/07 - Final double episode of LOST, amazing. Milan deserved to beat Liverpool, Crouch should have come on earlier.
24/5/07 - Went to Stingray sandbar and it was absolutely amazing. The massive rays brush past you and swim through your legs in a really playful way but it everyone keeps a careful eye on the barb on their tail. Got absolutely soaked riding bikes on ay back to Eldemires.
25/5/07 - Celebrity Mel & Simon took us to Rum point where we ate. The weather was bad so we came bck soon after.
Nice set of people at Eldemires at the moment, Domonic sparky from London now travelling, Mike from Canada now working in GC, Harley a dive instructor from USA but currently based in Thailand, Stanley who is travelling following test cricket and re-trcing his former colleagues in GC,
28/5/07 - Booked Cuba, $300US each return for friday.
29/5/07 - Collected Cuba tickets, walked ´Snowy´& ´puddle´again, had a lovely shrimp (prawn) roti and Celebrity Mel cooked us a great dinner, pie & veg dinner. Carl got status, Harley goes to Boston & Dom to Jamaica.
30/5/07 - Kayo´s 1st scan everything ok, now due 5th Nov.
31/5/07 - Went to Dance night at Sapphire´s. I got battered on a few few rum based cockails, good music but not cheap. Wendy & Jack collected Craig´s bike as he´s back and took him some beer as athank you.
CUBA
1/6/07 - Flight 1 hour delayed to Cuba. Ana from our Casa and a doctor pick us up from the airport in an old lada. Apparently the doctor earsn more money on the side as a taxi than as an actual doctor! Pepe took us to change money at the hotel nacional which is quite impressive on the coast. Then we ate the most wonderful steak in the world ever at a small fortification and both our meals and a tip came to 14quid.
2/6/07 - Had a random breakfast of banana, mango, papaya, pineapple and orange followed by scrambled eggs with thin ham, tomato, cucumber and cold runner beans all washed down with strong cuban coffee. Chan stressed a bit because cuba is a bit smelly and we can´t speak the lingo. Ate tea at a french place and my lamb was brillaint. Chan ordered chicken, and we both agreed it has never been anything close to a chicken so we left that.
3/6/07 - Pepe took us on a 3 hour tour of old Habana. We saw the cardinal of Habana in the cathedral, went in the museo de chocolate, in an old Jewish hotel ´Ambo Mundos´ and onto the roof in an 80 year old Otis lift. The architecture in old Habana is quite beautiful with loads of european style buildings all kept well. I had a traditional cuban lunch with a strong coffee and mojito.
4/6/07 - Went on a day trip to Las Terrazes in Pina del Rio via illegal taxi. Very hot and sunny and we swam in the stunning river with all the locals, went to hotel Moka which is a sustainable development and seems a bit random for Cuba. Also went round an old coffe plantation that wasnt great because we didnt havea guide.
5/6/07 Went to Museo de Habana which wasnt very good, also tried H Upman the cigar factory but we were told to come back in the morning as it was too late. Did a bit of window shopping then finished another book (a small death in Lisbon) I enjoyed it quite a lot.
6/6/07 Made our own way back to the airport and saved quite a bit on money in doing so, that made Chan happy. Loads of messing around at the airport in Habana which is a small tin shed and eventually got on our flight after it should have landed in GC.
7/6/07 Walked back to Eldemires from the airport yesterday in sweltering heat and had lunch from the supermarket, it must have taken us a couple of hours in total. Very hot again today, I had Conch Roti which was nice (large sea snail curried and wrapped in a tortilla like skin with a few bits of veg). Tried to get a boat dive from sunset but it was fully booked.
8/6/07 Tried again for a boat dive at sunset but it was fully booked again and as we arent stopping there we dont get priority. Had drinks with Celebrity Mel, Dave, Craig and some others it was a good laugh.
9/6/07 Did a couple of shore dives from sunset with Mel and Jack. We saw the Atlantis submarine and swam around it with all the us taking photos of each other. In the evening we went to Lunar Lounge opening at Ritz Carlton. It was a really good night, good laugh with a good set of people, a few people got absolutely wasted, then me and Chan had a couple of drinks by the pool afterwards.
10/6/07 Mel came and gave us a lift to the airport and Lisa also met us at the airport for a final drink. It was quite emotional and Chan got a bit upset, I was quite sad as well because CG is a nice place. Flwe to Miami.
Miami
10/6/07 Crossing the roads in the US takes some getting used to, had a great massive chinese chicken salad from the Lincoln road mall.
11/6/07 Very hot for a change, had a walk round Miami beach, not to many Johny Rokkos about which was quite suprising. Went in the sea for a while, Chan then went and had her photo taken outside the Police station (outside they list the dates of service of every Police Officer to have worked on Miami Beach, a few are in red when they died in service) and then we had a walk through the art deco area.
12/6/07 Hot with quite a bit of rain, went to Bayside but Chan wasnt too impressed with the shopping. Met Manny from Miami and he paid from our lunch, he seemed really nice and is 2nd generation Cuban. We tried to go out on the lash but a couple of places wouldnt let us in as we didnt have our passports with us, just had a couple of quiet drinks along the front.
13/6/07 Hot again, went to Mangoes and they had some cracking salsa dancers performing, although Chan didnt take any photos of the women (they were really fit). We then had a fallout because Chan didnt take enough money out so we went back to the room which was a long arguing walk back. The evening finished with me falling asleep on the bog.
14/6/07 Bimbled around in Miami then got a taxi to the airport. Definately the most unimpressive place yet, although I wasnt expecting much.
