27/08/07 - Changed some money at Sydney airport, and got some colourful, waterproof Australian money. Read the papers in the airport and the big news is Equine flu which is crippling the racing industry and the Asian workers being bullied and killed doing unskilled jobs illegally. Apparently they need to be skilled to get work in Aus.

 

28/08/07 - Melbourne (St Kilda) Coffee Backpackers - Checked in and met Mel & Shelly shortly afterwards and talked for ages about random sh*t and Ilson etc. We arranged a car hire so we could drive the great ocean road wed/thu. We were all pretty knackered so we had pizza and then an early night. St Kilda is a bit dodgy with hookers across the street and skag heads knocking around outside. Went on internet and found out Forest lost too Leeds but played pretty well - still gutted. (Two points from three games, CC must be feeling the pressure)

 

29/08/07 - Port Campbell, Great Ocean road - Collected the car at 8am and set off, although we quickly got lost going through Melbourne but after a relatively short strained period we were on our way (in the right direction). Stopped to have a peek at a few cool surfing resorts along the Great Ocean road & eventually stopped in a nice little hostel in Port Campbell. We got talking to a few people, and in particular a cock-n-e. He was quite charming and I noticed both Mel & Chan messing with their hair whilst talking to him - not sure if I should be worried?! We Went out for a beer and I had a cracking lamb dinner. I was in a bit of a grumpy mood, and part of the reason I think was that I was quite dissappointed with the Great Ocean Road and the 12 apostles (its a lie, there are only 6 left!!!). We watched the penguins come into the beach for the night just after sunset, that was cute but everyone was looking at us funny. Later we found out its illegal to drink in public places in Australia....

 

30/08/07 - Melbourne (St Kilda) Coffee Backpackers - Got up early and headed off to Healsville animal sanctuary which was good. We drove quite a few hours to get there from Port Campbell but SHelly and Mel were in a hurry so we squeezed it in. My favourites were the Dingoes, Koalas, Tazmainian Devils & Platypuss. The kangaroos just lay around in a legs spread porno position. We saw Mel & Shelly off and went out for some cheap noodles & rice before another early evening. Saw a bloke walk up the street witha baseball bat like he was gonna mash someone up, but then he hid it under a car and casually walked off with his dodgy looking mate.  

 

31/08/07 - Melbourne (St Kilda) Coffee Backpackers - Got the tram into town and had a walk round Victoria market which was pretty good with loads of meat, fish and veg. I liked the clothes shops, Chan thought they were tacky (snob). I liked the atmosphere in Melbourne.

 

01/09/07 - Melbourne (St Kilda) Coffee Backpackers - Got the tram into town and had a walk round Fitzroy Gardens  which were nice. Chan had a pedicure and I fell asleep while I waited. Today was the day I should have gone to watch the Aussie Rules @ the MCG and Footy @ Telstra Dome, but I got the days wrong and thought it was tomorrow D'oh!!! Me & Chan went out for a few bevvies in St Kilda, I liked it but Chan didn't, only stayed out until 1ish. They had live Sheff Wed vs Bristol City @ 9pm, The Owls were unlucky to be 1-0 down near the end when we left. 

 

02/09/07 - Melbourne (St Kilda) Coffee Backpackers - Had a walk round the craft market, they had some really cool stuff. Chan is still klicking herself that she didn't buy something and send it home.

 

04/09/07 - Melbourne to Sydney - Got up and got the tram to the train station. The bus ticket from Melbourne to Sydney cost $60 with two nights free digs thrown in, so that was pretty cheap. Bus left the station at 7:30am and we arrived in Sydney 12 hours later. Watched Rocky Balboa and an Australian film called 'Kenny' about a bloke who works with thunderbox's.
